However, there are also some things you can do right now to ensure that you are prepared to face the exam.

  • Go over all your psychology class notes.

Now that you've reached the end of the semester, you have probably already spent quite a bit of time studying and reviewing class materials. Going over your notes one last time before the test will help ensure that the material is fresh in your mind.

  • Find ways to manage stress. Test anxiety can seriously hurt your exams scores, so spend some time practicing different strategies to relieve your stress. Learn more about some of the stress traps to avoid during finals and how to overcome test anxiety.

  • Get enough sleep the night before a test. While you might be tempted to stay up all night cramming for the final, this strategy can actually backfire. If you go into class so exhausted that you are not alert, you are more likely to forget important information.

  • Review some psychology test-taking strategies and check out some tips on how to take multiple-choice psychology exams.

My son paces up and down the corridor frantically trying to force himself to remember the answers verbatim. While I have tried to make him stop, the reality is he?s able to pull it off and scores pretty high on his exams. Are today?s questions so standardized that memorizing the answer paragraph without necessarily understanding it is the new way to go?
