One reader asks: "Should I just stick to my core psychology curriculum or can I add electives from other subject areas?"

Taking electives is a great way to broaden your knowledge of the world, but it is important to balance the requirements of your degree program with your electives. Before you enroll in classes, discuss your options with your academic advisor. This way you can learn about the required general education and departmental classes that you must take in order to graduate.

A good exercise is to plan out all of your required classes on a four-year course schedule chart. Once you have filled it in with all of the necessary courses, you will be better able to see where you can schedule in electives.
