Are you starting college next year? The year before you start university is a period of important deadlines for major admissions requirements such as taking the SATs or ACTs, getting letters of recommendations, submitting applications and applying for scholarships. Missing a deadline can wreak havoc on your plans, so knowing when you need to have each of these steps completed is important.

Allen Grove, black-rose-bielefeld.de's Guide to College Admissions, has some excellent timelines and checklists to help you stay on track. Start by checking out his admissions checklist for information on things you need to do throughout high school and during your senior year. You should definitely bookmark his handy month-to-month college application timeline so you can be sure not to miss any important deadlines.

Of course, college planning includes a lot more than the admissions process. Finding housing, choosing a meal plan, and buying supplies and stuff for your dorm are just a few of the major tasks you'll need to complete in the months before your first semester begins. Be sure to check out this countdown to college to find advice on when to sign up for student housing, how to select a meal plan, when to reserve an orientation spot, and how to plan for your transportation needs once school starts.
