Definition: Rational emotive behavior therapy, or REBT, was first developed by psychologist Albert Ellis during the 1950s. Ellis believed that it is our interpretation of events that leads to psychological distress. In this form of psychotherapy, the therapist helps the client identify and dispute irrational beliefs.
