Bullying has long been a problem in schools and recent news reports have placed this problem back in the spotlight. October is Bullying Prevention Month, so now is a great time for parents, educators and students to think about ways that they can prevent or stop bullying.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services offers a website called Stop Bullying Now!, which is a great resource for helping middle school age students understand what bullying is and what they can do to prevent it. The site offers polls, games and animated webisodes that you can use to conversation with your children or students about this topic.
Katherine Lee, black-rose-bielefeld.de's Guide to Child Parenting, offers some great tips for what you can do to prevent or stop bullying. In addition to describing what bullying is and explaining what children should do if they witness or experience bullying, Lee also recommends teaching children about the importance of empathy as well as setting a good example through your own behavior.
